Green Bans

Yesterday was the 40th Anniversary of Green Bans. The amount of controversy these actions caused have been forgotten but the legacy of what these achieved is thankfully still here for us to enjoy.
May one well ask what have unions ever done for us on these days.

Laurie Garrett: AIDS at 30: The Real Story

Laurie Garrett: AIDS at 30: The Real Story

"June 5th marks the 30th anniversary of the recognition that a new disease was killing our species. It would become our era's Great Plague, killing somewhere between 28-35 million human beings, and infecting about 75 million with HIV."
I lost my friend in 1991 not to Aids but the stigma associated with this infection. This article is a eye opener.

MILLER, Godfrey | Blue Unity

Some ones work who still fascinates me. MILLER, Godfrey | Blue Unity since I initialy posted this the National Gallery has added vimeo to assist in viewers in understanding works in the collections.

The daughter of Carl Plate Gina told me a story about Godfrey sneaking into the Art Gallery of NSW and adding touches to one of his works that they had on exhibit. I still believe it.

New Tricks

If you have watched the show you would know that the characters are flawed in various ways but what they do well is listen, understand, and support each other and are sometimes brutally honest with each other.
For me this is why the series is so popular and has manage to develop.
Why blog about this? I am trying to learn new tricks at work.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_Tricks_(TV_series)

"The series title is taken from the popular expression "You can't teach an old dog new tricks". The "old dogs" are successful in adapting their skills and experience to modern policing, with their knowledge of past cases proving especially useful."

#adshel

The Hashtag #adshel has taken off today on twitter. From what I have read on twitter about 30 complaints had been received which forced the company to act. Are we going back to the 70's when censorship ran rampant? It is encouraging to see the vast number of people outraged by this news and making a stand against the ACL group and homophobia.

According to the QAHC they "Adshel, the company that provides advertising in bus shelters around Brisbane, has today given in to pressure from the Australian Christian Lobby and removed a safe sex campaign featuring a gay male couple."
